National Breast Cancer Foundation Digs New
‘GardenForTheCause’ Tools
New line of pink, ergonomically-designed garden tools for women will be unveiled by Bond Manufacturing on May 8 at National Hardware Show in Orlando, Fla.
DALLAS (April 30, 2007) – With the opening of the National Hardware Show on May 8, in Orlando, Fla., National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) founder and president – and 26-year breast cancer survivor – Janelle Hail will join Bond Manufacturing as the company unveils its new “Garden for the Cause” line of garden tools and accessories. The tools will be available nationally on June 1. Bond Manufacturing is a proud supporter of NBCF’s efforts to provide educational materials and free mammograms to women who cannot afford the procedure.
Beyond their bright, cheerful appearance, this complete line of eye-catching pink tools is ergonomically designed for women and includes gardening hand tools, kneeling pads, rakes, shovels, tool kits and watering items.
"Gardening is one of my favorite pastimes because I can slow down to enjoy nature, meditate and reflect on my day,” said Hail. “I am thrilled that our foundation will benefit from something so close to my heart. ‘Garden for the Cause’ tool sales will support our programs and the women we serve and, at a deeper level, these wonderful tools will give women a new reason to seek out a little quiet time in the garden. I think this is so important in today’s fast-paced world, particularly for women who may be dealing with breast cancer or other health problems. We are so pleased to be working with Bond Manufacturing and are grateful for their enthusiastic support."
More than 200,000 women in America will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and one fifth of those will die from the disease. In fact, one woman in eight has or will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Mammograms are among the best early-detection methods, yet 13 million American women over the age of 40 have never had a mammogram. This is a critical statistic because if detected early, the five-year survival rate exceeds 95 percent.
“As we developed a garden tool line created solely for women, we felt it was fitting to further strengthen our commitment to the community and to give back to a worthy organization – the National Breast Cancer Foundation,” said Doug Scheer, senior vice president sales of Bond Manufacturing. “Together with our retail partners, and through the sale of the ‘Garden for the Cause’ line of tools, we are giving back to the many customers who have been so loyal to us over the years.”
NBCF’s four-star Charity Navigator rating and successful track record among corporate sponsors make it a popular partner for companies interested in supporting causes important to their customers and employees. NBCF provided more than 22,000 mammograms last year and reached many more women through its educational initiatives. Hail’s accomplishments on behalf of NBCF have been noted by Belo Corp. and Cadillac who named her a “2006 Texas Legend.”
National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) extends women’s lives through education about breast cancer and early detection. The organization provides hope to women and families affected by breast cancer through a community of caring support and encouragement that enables those diagnosed with breast cancer to have fulfilling lives during their treatment and after.
